Recycling acrylic sheets requires specialist equipment and specialist knowledge, most recycling companies are not able to process acrylic sheet which is designated a Group 7 Plastic.

While there is a strong demand to recycle acrylic the supply side is lacking with a lack of investment and incentive from government and poor business case on the corporate side.

As part of our ongoing effort to create a more sustainable acrylic industry, we have instituted a small scale and free acrylic recycling program for individuals, schools and small home businesses.

At our Silverwater location we accept PMMA – Acrylic  for recycling if parts are smaller than 0.5m x 0.5m:

  • Laser cutting off-cuts
  • Saw cutting off-cuts
  • Extruded or Cast PMMA Acrylic
  • With masking film or without
  • Clear or coloured sheets
  • Small Sheets sorted or mixed

Can you recycle Commercial Volumes?

There are some companies that still do offer recycling of a range of different types of plastics including, Terra Cycle, so if you are looking to recycle commercial qty’s of plastic it might be worth reaching out and seeing if they can help.

What Happens to Recycled Acrylic?

Most plastics are shredded, melted down and then turned into other products of lower value, in a process called down-cycling.
